Public Art / Paypal Workspace Murals

Two interior murals created for PayPal’s new London headquarters on the South Bank.

Installed across meeting rooms along the office’s main circulation routes, the works wrap around walls, doors, windows and corner planes.

The compositions were designed to feel energetic and immersive from inside the rooms, while also adding colour and movement to the wider workspace.

Context

The commission formed part of PayPal’s new London office, a large open-plan space with shared work areas, meeting rooms, snugs and collaborative spaces.

The murals sit in two meeting rooms that are passed throughout the day and viewed from several different angles.

As people experience the work from close range, the designs needed to hold together without relying on one main viewpoint or a few large shapes.

The project was also a chance to let the artwork function on its own terms, rather than using the walls for slogans or heavily branded messaging.

Composition and Approach

Each mural was developed around the shape of the room and the interruptions within it.

Doors, windows and corners became part of the composition, with forms continuing across surfaces and disappearing behind architectural elements.

The designs use a dense mix of shapes, overlaps and colour relationships, giving people different details to notice as they move through the space.

The palettes respond to colours used elsewhere in the interior, while staying close to my own primary-led visual language.

Delivery

The murals were hand-painted on site using highly pigmented matt paints from Bristol Paints.

The matt finish was especially useful across the multi-plane walls, helping the colours remain bold and consistent without reflections breaking up the composition.

Working across corners, doors and glazed areas required careful setting out and small adjustments on site to keep the forms aligned.

Outcome

The finished works turn the meeting rooms into bright, distinctive spaces within the wider office.

Colour wraps around the architecture, making each room feel fully considered rather than simply decorated.

From the surrounding walkways, parts of the murals appear through windows and doorways, adding visual interest to the circulation areas as well.

The project is a strong example of how original artwork can bring energy and character into a workplace without becoming overly branded.
