It’s always such a great pleasure to be invited to various places around the world to produce artwork for people. I’ve always enjoyed being outside and exploring, so naturally any opportunity to do so whilst create new artworks is going to be a real treat!
What’s more, I had the extra luxury of working alongside a very talented artist friend of mine Jamie Krooks. Jamie is best known for his typographicly informed, abstract and geometric artworks, so as well as good friends – our works also happen to follow various similar threads of thought and interest. An excellent working companion, I think you will agree!
In typical Irish fashion the February weather was a little intermittent (we were greeted with hail the moment we opened the car doors) with spells of sunshine, but we can for sure be grateful that rain was NOT on the menu – in it’s place though was very low temperatures! To combat this, we had the lovely owners of Ballyhoura Luxury Hostel take such great care of us during our stay – with hot drinks and food on rotation.
Corrugated painting surfaces like this are never ideal to work with and so lots of patience is needed to achieve good geometry and minimal fuzz. But it’s a battle worth pursuing as the end result of this three-dimensional metal box fully blocked in with colour is truly magic! Having multiple viewing points gives it a lovely sculptural and much more participatory quality, which I love! As you can see below, I’m very pleased with the result 😀
I’d like to extend a massive thankyou to Seamus, Teresa and their two lovely dogs Axel & Sprocket for being so welcoming, attentive and such excellent hosts – we’re super grateful for the invitation and are absolutely delighted to visit and share some new abstract artwork with you all!
